【Shamijima・Teshima】Weeding: The Never-ending Fun
The heat of late summer is still intense in the Setouchi Region.
On Shamijima and Teshima, we have removed the grass and maintained the plants near the artworks. By maintaining the environment around the artworks, we can preserve the scenery and present its best condition to visitors. Thanks to the power of Koebi-tai members, the activities have been enjoyable.
Shamijima
As Typhoon No,10 (Shanshan) was approaching, up until one day before our activity there had been concerns whether the work could proceed as scheduled. On the day of activity, the sky was clear without a cloud. Koebi-tai members were energetic, and gathered beside Yosihtake Najo’s work Peering in the Seabed on Shamijima,
The activity was to maintain the plants near the Triennale venue.
Officials from the Setouchi Triennale Executive Committee and Sakaide City Government also came and joined us.!
The goal for the day was to trim the plants neatly around the house without trimming them too much. While it was quite a difficult goal, together we studied the whole situation and came up with a plan. First, we cleared the pathway leading to the backdoor of the house, and made sure that it was accessible.
Then, we cut the grass at the front door and surrounding areas.
Having done so, we would not need to worry even in case of strong winds such as typhoons!
The task progressed smoothly, and we finished in just an hour and a half!
We had our early lunch relaxedly and called it a day.
On that day, gradually we came to understand how to trim the plants neatly without overdoing it.
Shima Kitchen, Teshima
It was a day when the cool breeze was blowing for just a little bit – was it an autumn day? We went weeding at Shima Kitchen on Teshima.
We were determined to tidy up the garden before the Silver Week holidays! This time, we removed all the weeds at Shima Kitchen within one day!
It was very reassuring that many members who had previously helped with weeding during early summer came to join us again, and the work progressed smoothly.
Apart from weeding, we also went pruning the fig trees in the garden.
The fig trees also became neat and tidy!
This should help the fruits ripen quickly!
In autumn, Shima Kitchen will serve special desserts made with figs gathered from the garden. Don’t miss it!
