A Day of Koebi Activities

7:00
Koebi members start arriving and show up at Takamatsu Port. For Uno Port, they will start showing up after 8:00. During the festival period of Setouchi Triennale, participants would gather at one of the two ports for the everyday morning meeting.

7:15 Morning Meeting@Takamatsu Port(For those heading to Oshima, meeting starts at 8:30 in Koebi Office.)
8:15 Morning Meeting@Uno Port
“Read the handbook of artwork and the manual for receptionist carefully!”
”When you leave, please bring all the rubbish back! Keep the place even cleaner than the time when you arrived!”
“Greet with each other cheerfully!” etc., please confirm with the basis of Koebi-tai here.

And, the everyday custom. Shout “Ei~Ei~O~!!”

Once the morning meeting is over, Koebi members would be separated into different groups according to the island each member is designated to go to.
The person in charge of each island would explain the way of working at the reception desk in details. Don’t worry even if this is your first time to participate.
The person-in-charge and experienced members are all nearby.

Carry the receptionist’s bag! Let’s go!
Read the manual on ferry/boat, and ask whenever there is something you don’t understand.

On this day, Koebi members from America, Thailand, and Taiwan came to join us together.

7:40〜8:00 Get on the ferry/boat.
While those heading to Megijima and Ogijima will have chance to take the lovely ferry named Me’on, those heading to Teshima will take a small boat instead.

This is what would be like inside the boat towards Teshima. ♩
Everyone is close to each other inside, and it is easy to talk and have fun!

You may wonder about the transportation after you have reached the island. For Teshima and Shodoshima, the person-in-charge will give you a ride, and take you to the site you will be working at. For Megijima and Ogijima, just walk.

【Opening Hours on Each Island】
*The opening hours listed here refer to the artworks manned by Koebi-tai only. The actual opening hours are subject to each facility.
■Naoshima 10:00-16:00
■Teshima 9:30-16:30
■Megijima 9:00-16:30
■Ogijima 9:30-16:15
■Shodoshima 9:30-17:00
■Oshima 10:00-16:00
■Uno Port 9:00-18:30

Once you have arrived at the site of artwork・・・ Read the “Manual of Artwork” inside the receptionist’s bag, and prepare to have the artwork open for visitors.
When it is time to open and the visitors come, greet cheerfully and say, “Konnichiwa!!!”

“Have you brought the Triennale Passport?”

Stamp on the Passport handed by visitors. Introduce the site’s specific rules to the visitors. “No photo, please.” “Please take off your shoes.” etc.
As the “glue-like” Koebi-tai is the agent to connect visitors to the artwork, let’s provide an awesome experience of art appreciation!
Once you have spare time, please take the opportunity to tidy up, check the artwork, and/or have your lunch…
The person-in-charge will come and have a check at each site from time to time.

On Oshima, Koebi members act as tour guides, introducing the history of Oshima to the visitors. Read the guide’s manual carefully beforehand! Our staff will work with you together. (Note: Restricted to Japanese-speaking members only.)

Having come back from islands, attend the day-end meeting at Koebi Office.

By the end of opening hours, prepare to have the site closed, go to the place of gathering, and take the ferry/boat together.
Photocopy the daily report, submit the money and unsold passports, and tidy up the receptionist’s bag for the next-day participant. Let’s call it a day!

【こえび寮】All you may want to know about Koebi Dormitory.

Welcome to Setouchi Triennale!
Every day, Koebi members from every corner of the world come to join our activities, helping with the production of artworks as well as with the daily operation of Setouchi Triennale. For our members from somewhere far away, we have prepared the best-loved Koebi Dormitory and it is free. Meanwhile, you may wonder what Koebi Dormitory is really about and how it looks like. Here, we are going to show you around the Dormitory!

The Koebi Office is located on the 6th floor of the building framed in red, in front of Takamatsu JR Station.

Before coming to the Koebi Dormitory, please visit the Koebi Office first!

The housefather of Koebi Dormitory will explain to you the guidelines of the Dormitory.
The good-humored housefather might go off-topic (haha…), but he will also go through all the important points that you need to know. Therefore, please listen to him carefully!

You will get the map and learn about the direction for the Dormitory. You will also get the key for the Koebi bicycle lent to you.

Let’s go!!
It takes 10 mins to the Dormitory by bicycle, and about 20mins on foot.
Note: Bicycles are subject to limited availability.

Don’t worry about your large-sized luggage. The housefather will take them to the Dormitory by car!

Arrived! Here is the entrance of the Dormitory.
In case you get lost, please contact the Dormitory at once! (We will pass you the contacts beforehand.

Our housemother will receive you on the 2nd floor of the Dormitory with a big smile!
Let’s learn about the inside of the Dormitory.

The bedrooms are gender-specific, shared with other Koebi members. Every morning, please have the futon mattress folded, and tidy up everything around you.

Having dinner together with Koebi members from Taiwan

This is the bright, spacious, kitchen shared by everyone. It has become the common room for rest and relaxation. Cookware is available, and self-catering is welcome. Meanwhile, you will find convenience stores, cafeterias, restaurants, supermarkets, etc., just nearby. If you are lucky enough, maybe our housemother (who is a good cook) will prepare a meal for you?!
You will have chance to make friends with Koebi members from every corner of Japan and abroad through common living, and this is what makes the Koebi Dormitory so charming. Therefore, please open your heart, and talk, communicate, exchange, with various people you meet!

The washing machines mostly welcomed by long-term participants.

The perfectly-cleaned shared toilet.

The washbasins also look clean.

The high-grade shampoos, hair conditioners, body soups, that you might find at luxury hotels are provided even at our Dormitory! There are three types to choose from and all are free. Yet, please bring your own tooth brush, towels, pajamas, etc.

For shower and bath, you will have to visit the public bath nearby. JPY400 for once.

On the day of activity, you will have to go to the designated place of meeting by yourself. Please don’t be late! And, don’t forget to bring your lunch and drinks, etc. In any case, you will pass by a number of convenience stores on the way.

【Message from Our Housefather and Housemother】
In 2009-2015, we traveled around the world, visited more than 70 countries, and stayed at innumerous places along the way. In 2010, the housefather joined Koebi activities for about three months and stayed at the Koebi Dormitory; in 2013, we both helped operate the Dormitory since the Summer Session of Setouchi Triennale until its finale.
We aim at making the Koebi Dormitory a comfortable place for rest, and a fun place for exchange, based on all of our experience.
It is our honor if you would regard your time at the Dormitory as one of the attractions of coming for Koebi activities. We are glad to meet all of you, too.
Let’s meet at the Dormitory!
